Labia majora lipofilling consists of reinjecting your own fat to restore volume to the labia majora. It is intended for people whose labia majora have become thinner or deflated: with age, after weight loss, after pregnancies, or constitutionally. It restores the shape of the vulva and can better cover the labia minora.
How the procedure unfolds
In practice
- In consultation, I analyse your request.
- I perform a simple examination of the labia majora and labia minora.
- Together we identify the area where the fat will be harvested.
- I collect information about your state of health (see “the first consultation for surgery”).
- We take photographs for your medical record.
- I give you all the information about the surgery and give you an estimate.
A second consultation is compulsory before any procedure. You must stop smoking at least one month before the operation. You meet the anaesthetist before the operation.
Surgery
Labia majora lipofilling is most often performed under general anaesthesia, sometimes under deep local anaesthesia. It takes place at the Clinique Pasteur in Toulouse, on an outpatient basis.
The fat is injected into the labia majora with fine cannulas, through entry points of a few millimetres. It is distributed in fine networks to help it take.
The operation generally lasts one hour to one and a half hours.
Postoperative effects
Pain is most often moderate. It mainly concerns the harvesting area. It is relieved by simple painkillers.
- Bruises and swelling appear on the harvesting area and on the labia majora.
- The swelling of the labia majora may seem excessive during the first weeks. It decreases gradually.
- A compression garment is worn on the harvesting area for a few weeks.
- You resume your usual activities after a few days.
- Sport and sexual intercourse are resumed after about one month.
The result is assessed after three to six months, once the fat has stabilised. A second session may be offered if resorption is significant. I see you again for a follow-up consultation.
Fat harvesting
The fat is harvested by gentle liposuction from an area where it is in excess: stomach, hips, inner knees or inner thighs. The harvesting scar measures a few millimetres. The fat is then purified, by centrifugation or filtration, and reinjected. Part of the injected fat is resorbed in the following weeks. A slight overcorrection is therefore performed.
What to do to optimize the result?
- Keep a stable weight: the grafted fat follows your weight variations.
- Stop smoking: tobacco compromises fat take.
- Wear the compression garment as recommended.
- Avoid any pressure on the labia majora during the first month: cycling, sexual intercourse, tight clothing.
- Keep simple intimate hygiene.
- Drink enough water and moisturise the skin.
- Protect bruised areas from the sun.
Social security coverage
Labia majora lipofilling is not covered by social security for aesthetic purposes. It remains at your expense.
