Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in the skin. As an injectable gel, it fills lines and folds. It restores volume to hollow areas and redefines certain contours: lips, cheekbones, chin, dark circles, nasolabial folds. It is intended for people who wish to correct a loss of volume or a line, with a natural result.
How the procedure unfolds
In practice
- In consultation, I analyse your request and the structure of your face.
- I examine the skin, the volumes and the hollow areas.
- I collect information about your state of health, your treatments and your medical history.
- We take photographs for your medical record.
- I specify the areas to be treated, the product and the quantity planned.
- I give you information about the product, its effects and its limits.
- I give you an estimate.
The injections can be done during the second consultation.
The session
The session takes place at the practice. Most products contain a local anaesthetic. An anaesthetic cream can be applied before the session.
- The skin is disinfected.
- I mark the areas to be treated.
- I inject the product with a fine needle or a cannula (a fine blunt-tipped tube), through one or more entry points.
- I then gently massage the area to distribute the product.
The session generally lasts fifteen to forty-five minutes depending on the treated areas.
Aftercare
- Redness, swelling and tenderness are frequent for a few hours to a few days.
- Bruises are possible. They generally fade within a few days.
- Small irregularities may be felt at first. They most often disappear.
You can resume your usual activities the same day. Avoid make-up on the injection points on the day of the session.
The result is assessed once the swelling has gone down, after a few days to two weeks. A touch-up may be offered at that time if necessary.
Rare complications exist. I inform you about them in consultation. I see you again for a follow-up consultation.
Duration of the effect
The product is resorbable. The effect is visible immediately after the session. It generally lasts several months to more than a year, depending on the treated area, the product used and your own metabolism. The injections can be repeated to maintain the result.
What to do to optimize the result?
- Do not massage or press on the injected areas on the day of the session.
- Avoid sport, sauna and heat for the following twenty-four hours.
- Protect the skin from the sun, especially in case of bruises.
- Moisturise the skin and drink enough water.
- Stop smoking: tobacco accelerates skin ageing.
- Report any unusual pain or change in skin colour.

Hyaluronic acid injections for aesthetic purposes are not covered by social security. They remain at your expense.
