Mastopexy, or breast lift, treats breast ptosis, that is breasts that have “dropped”. Ptosis most often occurs after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or with age. The procedure lifts the breast, repositions the areola and tightens the skin. If the volume is insufficient, it can be combined with an implant or a fat transfer.

    How the procedure unfolds

    Before

    In practice

    • In consultation, I analyse your request and your expectations.
    • I examine your breasts: the degree of ptosis, the quality of the skin, the volume and the position of the areolas.
    • I also collect information about your state of health and your breast history.
    • We take photographs for your medical record.
    • I offer you a 3D simulation of the expected result with the Crisalix software.
    • Breast imaging is generally requested before the procedure.
    • I give you all the information about the surgery and give you an estimate.

A second consultation is mandatory before any procedure. You must stop smoking at least one month before the procedure.

    During

    Surgery

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia, at the Clinique Pasteur in Toulouse. It is done on an outpatient basis or with one night in hospital. I lift the mammary gland, reposition the areola and remove the excess skin.

The scars depend on the degree of ptosis. They are located around the areola, most often with a vertical scar down to the fold under the breast. In case of significant ptosis, a horizontal scar in the fold may be necessary (“inverted T” scar).

The procedure generally lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours. You go home with a compression bra, to be worn day and night for several weeks.

    After

    Postoperative effects

    Pain is generally moderate.

    • Bruises and swelling appear on the breasts. They generally fade within two to three weeks.
    • The stitches are most often absorbable.
    • You can return to normal activity after one to two weeks.
    • Sport can be resumed after about six weeks.
    • The scars are red at first, then they lighten over one to two years.
    • The breasts are high and tight at first, then they soften and take their final shape.

The final result can be assessed after six months to one year. I see you again at several follow-up consultations.

    Pregnancy and breast lift

It is preferable to wait until pregnancies and breastfeeding are over. A delay of several months after the end of breastfeeding is recommended. A pregnancy after the procedure remains possible, but it may change the result. A stable weight is also recommended before surgery.

What to do to optimize the result?

    • Hydrate yourself and your skin.
    • Do not smoke: tobacco slows healing and increases the risk of complications.
    • Wear the compression bra as recommended.
    • Avoid arm efforts during the first weeks.
    • Protect the scars from the sun during the first year.
    • Keep a stable weight.

    Social security coverage

An isolated breast lift is generally not covered by social security. If the ptosis is associated with breast hypertrophy, coverage may exist in some cases. We discuss this in consultation.

    Pricing

From 4500 euros, on estimate given at the end of the consultation.

The SOFCPRE information sheet for your procedure is given to you during the consultation.

    My advice

    • Hydrate yourself and your skin

Drink enough water and unsweetened drinks regularly. Apply a moisturizer to the skin once or twice a day after cleansing.

    • Protect yourself from the sun

Avoid prolonged direct exposure, cover up and regularly apply total sunscreen protection (UVA / UVB) factor 50 to exposed areas.

    • You should not smoke

or you should stop smoking as soon as possible. If needed, ask for help to your doctor or a tobacco addiction specialist, there are many methods available to help you in this difficult process.
