Tuberous breasts are a malformation of breast development. It appears at puberty. The base of the breast is narrow, the fold under the breast is high and the areola is often wide and bulging. An asymmetry between the two breasts is frequent. Surgery corrects the shape of the breast, the position of the fold and the appearance of the areola. It is intended for people whose breast growth is complete.
How the procedure unfolds
In practice
- In consultation, I analyse your request and your expectations.
- I examine your breasts: the shape, the volume, the position of the fold, the areola and the asymmetry.
- I also collect information about your state of health.
- We take photographs for your medical record.
- I offer you a 3D simulation of the expected result with the Crisalix software.
- Breast imaging is generally requested before the procedure.
- I give you all the information about the surgery and give you an estimate.
A second consultation is mandatory before any procedure. You must stop smoking at least one month before the procedure.
Surgery
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia, at the Clinique Pasteur in Toulouse. It is done on an outpatient basis or with one night in hospital.
The incision is most often located around the areola. It allows me to reshape the gland, reduce the areola and lower the fold. An implant or fat can be added through the same incision to give volume.
The scar is generally limited to the edge of the areola. A vertical scar may be necessary in some cases.
The procedure generally lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours. You go home with a compression bra, to be worn day and night for several weeks.
Postoperative effects
Pain is generally moderate.
- Bruises and swelling appear on the breasts. They generally fade within two to three weeks.
- You can return to normal activity after one to two weeks.
- Sport can be resumed after about six weeks.
- The shape of the breast changes over several months.
- The scars are red at first, then they lighten over one to two years.
The final result can be assessed after six months to one year. I see you again at several follow-up consultations.
One malformation, several forms
Tuberous breasts exist in very varied degrees. The procedure is therefore adapted to each case. Several techniques can be combined: reshaping of the gland, lowering of the fold, reduction of the areola, placement of an implant or fat transfer. In some cases, two procedures a few months apart are necessary. We discuss this in consultation.
What to do to optimize the result?
- Hydrate yourself and your skin.
- Do not smoke: tobacco slows healing.
- Wear the compression bra as recommended.
- Avoid arm efforts during the first weeks.
- Protect the scars from the sun during the first year.
- Keep a stable weight.
Social security coverage
Tuberous breasts are a malformation. Social security coverage may exist in some cases, after a prior approval request. We discuss this in consultation.
Pricing
On estimate, from 1500 euros per procedure.
The SOFCPRE information sheet for your procedure is given to you during the consultation.
